Which Department does your State reporting?

Hello all,

I am wondering who in your facility runs and submits your state report? We have been doing it but California requires a lot of fields and encompasses several department's information. It is becoming more time consuming and I think the process would be better served with the staff who handle reports in our IT Department. What do you do?

Thanks for your help.

I do not know who submits the report for our facility, but it is not Medical Records.

  • We have to submit certain data to the state on a regular basis. Inpatient data is submitted every 6 months and ED and Ambulatory Surgeries are submitted quarterly.

The information we have to submit involves demographic data, admission data, race and ethnicity data, diagnosis and procedure codes, insurance information, etc. California keeps adding more fields and our facility is expanding. We now have a SNF and that data is included in with our inpatient data. We basically have to coordinate correction of any errors with the departments. Also, we have to work with IT when the feeds from various computer systems become glitchy and error out our report. IT may be running your report in the background or your state may not require reporting. If the state doesn't require reporting, count yourself lucky :)

At United Regional in Texas, our Decision Support (part of IT department) is responsible for running and submitting the report for State Reporting. Medical Records is responsible for all the corrections to the report (demographic errors, doctor numbers, zip codes, coding, etc.) and coordinating that effort with other departments involved in trying to resolve those issues with the report.

    Thank you,
